According to Hindu mythology, Chardham is not a physical journey but a journey in the spiritual plane meant to offer salvation. The term Chardham has been derived from the Hindi words ‘Char’ meaning four and ‘Dham’ meaning a destination. The four significant abodes are Gangotri, the source of river Ganga, Yamunotri, the source of river Yamuna, Kedarnath shrine and the Badrinath shrine.
